Media Release - 25 July 2008
Are fed up with Council ignoring your views?
Are you opposed to our Councillors pushing high rise development in Mollymook and Ulladulla?
Are you concerned about developer donations to the Mayor and his Party?
Do you want a Council that makes decisions for the benefit of the whole community, not just a select group?
“This is just the tip of the iceberg!” says Mr Hatton, former State MP for the South Coast who describes Shoalhaven City Council as “The worst in Council 50 years”.
“Mr Hatton will reveal findings of his research into the dirty dealings of Shoalhaven City Council at a public meeting on the evening of 6th August at the Ulladulla Civic Centre.
“Our findings will shock you” he says, “and the upcoming elections on the 13th September is the time to set it right”.
“Proper practice, meaningful public consultation, due diligence and common decency have been ignored by the majority of our current councillors” said Mr Hatton.
“ Small business cannot compete against favoritism” he said. “Citizens, especially retirees, can have a lifetime’s investment in their home, lifestyle and community destroyed by improper town planning practices.”
The meeting is being organised by the Shoalhaven Action Campaign. “The meeting is a must for anyone who is fed up with this Council” says Annie Boutland from the Shoalhaven Action Campaign.
“Come along to the meeting to demonstrate the real level of community concern about the actions of this Council” urged Ms Boutland.
“Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about what our current Councillors have been up to and why they have got to go.” she said.
“It will also be an opportunity to hear from alternative candidates endorsed by the Shoalhaven Action Campaign” she said. “These candidates are committed to:
- meaningful consultation with the community on major developments;
- fair and transparent decision-making;
- appropriate development suited to our coastal atmosphere; and
- accepting the professional advice of Council’s professional staff”.

John can add another dirty deal to his shame file for the Shoalhaven Independents - the adoption of DCP 56 for the Ulladulla Town Centre at an extraordinary meeting of Council on 29th July.
The “Shoalhaven Independents” led by Greg Watson demonstrated their contempt for the residents of Ulladulla and Mollymook when they forced through DCP 56, without the staff recommendations to amend the draft policy which would have reached a compromise
between residents and business wishes.
Instead, representatives of the Business Chamber did a deal with the Independents to ensure only their needs are met, regardless of what the community have requested.
Two years of tireless work by dedicated community members with NO VESTED INTEREST in the DCP was thrown out the window in an act of utter contempt for the residents who have invested their life savings
and their future in a town which may now become nothing more than an opportunity for
non-local greedy developers to make their fortune at the expense of hapless residents.

Well. It seems like it’s panic time for the Sholahaven Independents Group. They appear to be rushing through last minute DCP’s before the local elections. I feel deeply for those concerned ratepayes from Milton and Ulladulla who have worked hard in developing a compromise that is acceptable to all concerned.
I am not a resident of Milton or Ulladulla but I will be at the meeting on Wednesday to give my support.
Watson and his Herd of Independent sheep need to be Investigated by the DLG. I hope that this institution is not a paper tiger and can apply the blowtorch to those reckless or incompetent councillors who refuse to follow the rules of local government.
